Measuring Cups are used to quantify the volume of liquid or powder materials. What are the two materials from the given list which you would measure with a Measuring Cup? Ordinary drinking glasses, coffee mugs, or silverware are not used for measuring since their sizes differ, and thus, the measurements will be conflicting. However, we can also measure the cups with respect to tablespoons and teaspoons in the U.S. Thus, Measuring Cups are usually measured in pint and fluid ounces. Liquid Measuring Cups (used for weighing liquids substances).Ī Measuring Cup generally consists of scale markings at varying heights. Usually, there are two kinds of Measuring Cups i.e:ĭry Measuring Cups (used for weighing powder ingredients). The Measuring Cup is particularly used to measure cooking ingredients weighing volumes from about 50 mL (2 fl oz) and upwards. That said, there are various uses of Measuring Cups given as below:Īlso referred to as a Measuring Cup jug or a measuring spoon is a kitchen utensil used primarily to measure the volume of liquid or amount of solid substances that are used as cooking ingredients. ![]() showed that using an individualized sleep system, in comparison with the sleep system which an individual usually uses, causes the shoulder and back pain of the individual to decrease and his sleep quality to increase. observed that patients with low back pain feel less comfortable on a mattress with high stiffness than on a mattress with average stiffness. Thereagainst, mattresses with high stiffness lead to shoulder pain, and cause the decrease in sleep quality and improper distribution of body loads. Soft surfaces cause the increase in low back pain due to incorrect support of vertebral column. The effect of these parameters on the soundness of vertebral column has been also investigated. Various researches have been done on the effect of mechanical parameters of sleep system (cushion, mattress, bed base) on the posture of individual, manner of load distribution, decubitus ulcer, temperature and heat transfer, comfort, and physiological responses of the body like muscle relaxation. With the change of the direction of gravity vector during sleep, the intervertebral disks are unloaded and can rehydrate to restore their elasticity. Growth and restoration of intervertebral disks as a hydrated soft tissue are based on the amount of pressure and its manner of application on them. A non-neutral posture can apply lateral bending and unbalanced loading on intervertebral disks and facet joints. A proper sleep system can align the spine to some extent in its neutral posture which is the same as the spine alignment in upright position. Human being has no active control on spine alignment during sleep. Observing the amount of required stiffness obtained for the sleep surface, can have a significant effect on keeping the spine healthy. ![]() After data fitting, it was observed that the variations of spinal alignment obtained from both methods have the same trend. The mattress with a custom-made arrangement is a more appropriate choice for heavier men with pronounced body contour. In modeling part, the required stiffness of the sleep surface for four weight-dimensional groups was acquired quantitatively. The one way ANOVA statistical model and the post hoc tests showed a significant difference in the π-P 8 angles between soft & custom-made and soft & firm mattresses at the p = 0.001 level and between firm & soft mattresses at the p = 0.05 level. 2007, Biomechanics Research Group, Inc., USA) based on these data and in accordance with the experimental tests, were analyzed. And then the models built in BRG.LifeMOD (ver. In modeling part the anthropometric data of four different types of volunteers were used. Thereupon the π-P 8 angles were extracted from these alignments and then were compared with each other. In experimental part, the coordinate positions of the markers mounted on the spinous processes of the vertebrae of 25 male volunteers were registered in frontal plane through the optical tracking method and so the spinal alignment was obtained in lateral sleep position on soft and firm surfaces and on the best custom-made arrangement. The required stiffness of a sleep surface for each individual can be obtained by changing this arrangement applying the experimental method and modeling. To keep the spine in optimal alignment, one can use sleep surfaces with different zonal elasticity, the so called custom-made arrangements. Most of the previous studies in scientific literature have focused on the effects of customary mattresses on the spinal alignment. However, songs with a rousing chorus like this are not designed to be understood in one take. People, including Springsteen, said that they needed to put in the time and effort to listen to the song. The Reagan campaign’s cluelessness about this is old news. The song is clearly a bitter message about the men who went to fight in Vietnam and the problems they had when they returned home. ![]() Till you spend half your life just covering up You end up like a dog that’s been beat too much The first kick I took was when I hit the ground If you listen more carefully you hear words like these: You can hear this song a hundred times and not hear any lyrics besides these. It’s the music, the rhythm, the chords, and the arrangement, that drives them into your skull. However, the words themselves are banal and repetitive. It is almost impossible to hear this chorus without singing along, even for people who were not born in the U.S.A. In 1984 (1984, yikes, how Orwellian!) Ronald Reagan’s presidential campaign tried to use Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” as a campaign theme. I want to argue that rock n’ roll music is the inheritor of the Gorgianic strand of sophistic rhetoric. Note especially the last sentence above, where he talks about the particular power of words that are sung to beguile and persuade the soul. This is the sophistic logos, a persuasion through hypnotizing words rather than logical argument, as in Aristotle. The translator of the above passage has attempted to preserve a bit of this effect. Much of the effect of Gorgias’ speech derives from rhythmic, poetic language with odd turns of phrase and lots of repetition of words and sounds. Sacred incantations sung with words are bearers of pleasure and banishers of pain, for, merging with opinion in the soul, the power of the incantation is wont to beguile it and persuade it and alter it by witchcraft. But come, I shall turn from one argument to another. ![]() Fearful shuddering and tearful pity and grievous longing come upon its hearers, and at the actions and physical sufferings of others in good fortunes and in evil fortunes, through the agency of words, the soul is wont to experience a suffering of its own. I shall show how this is the case, since it is necessary to offer proof to the opinion of my hearers: I both deem and define all poetry as speech with meter. ![]() Speech is a powerful lord, which by means of the finest and most invisible body effects the divinest works: it can stop fear and banish grief and create joy and nurture pity. However, what I am interested in here is not the argument, but the theory of rhetoric represented here by the seductive power of words. Gorgias argues that she is blameless because her actions were either due to the will of the gods, or she was “by force reduced or by words seduced or by love possessed.” Gorgias’ argument deprives Helen of all agency and thus all moral responsibility. In “Encomium of Helen” the sophist Gorgias defends Helen of Troy, widely considered to be the epitome of a bad woman. I guess I should attempt to make a bridge between “guitar” and “sophist.” In addition to new music, the very family-oriented Canada is busy with his other labor of love: his own School of Rock franchise in his hometown of New Braunfels, Texas. As a bonus, it will be a mini Braun Brothers Reunion, of sorts, with Micky & The Motorcars (another band that skipped Utah in 2018) co-headlining the show. On Tuesday, The Departed returns to The State Room for their first show in Utah in three years. In June, Cody Canada and The Departed – now a trio – released the appropriately titled 3, an album that found Canada reuniting with Cross Canadian Ragweed producer Mike McClure. Go out and do what you do best, sing YOUR songs. That’s when Canada took the advice of his wife, Shannon Canada, who told him, “I just want to hear you sing your songs.” In fact, in some ways it was a hindrance.Ī rotating cast of band members, Canada’s refusal to play many Ragweed standards, and experimentation with a new sound left fans confused and Canada frustrated. The success that Canada and bassist Jeremy Plato had with their prior band, however, wasn’t enough to launch The Departed back into Ragweed-like fame. The breakup of Ragweed was not as pleasant as originally portrayed. Before Cross Canadian Ragweed was officially over, Canada was already rehearsing with his new band, Cody Canada and The Departed. Songs like “Alabama,” “17,” “Constantly,” “Anywhere But Here,” “Fightin For” and “This Time Around” (just to name a small few) made Ragweed one of the most popular bands of the outlaw country/Texas/Oklahoma music realm of the mid-90s to 2010.īut as head singer/songwriter/guitarist and part of the band’s namesake, Cody Canada, has noted in concert, he had 14 great years in the band and one really bad one. ![]() ![]() 24, 2010, it ended a highly successful 15-year run of being the kings of the Red Dirt music scene. The biggest difference is that Syncthing does not install or run as a normal application on your computer, it is an executable binary. I figured I would try it out and see how well it handled transmitting my data around between Windows, OS X, and Ubuntu computers. While it did not look as easy to use as BitTorrent Sync, it appeared to offer many of the same features with verifiable data security. I started looking at alternatives late last year and repeatedly saw Syncthing mentioned as a strong, open-source alternative. The folder hash is only used to discover the IP address of devices with the same folder and cannot be used to obtain access to the folder itself. These claims turned out to be unfounded because the folder hash transmitted to the GetSync website is NOT the same as the folder key (secret). ![]() BitTorrent has even been accused of leaking folder hashes in communication with the Sync website, which could possibly give them (or anyone demanding it) access to all of your shared data. And because the software is proprietary, it is difficult to verify the safety and security of any shared data. While setting up and sharing new folders is now exceedingly easy, it started feeling like the software was heading in the wrong direction. The release of v2.0 was met with controversy because of the implementation of a paid tier that severely limited the usefulness of the software (no selective sync and 10 folder limit reverted in v2.2). Over the course of its development during the past three years, the software has evolved considerably. ![]() BitTorrent Sync seemed to fulfill that need almost perfectly and was vastly easier than constantly running rsync commands. While I have much more free storage than your average non-paying Dropbox user, I needed to regularly transfer tens of gigabytes of files without any need of uploading to the Internet/cloud.
